Percent Discount (% Discount)

Definition

A promotional price reduction expressed as a percentage off a product’s original or regular price. Percent discounts are commonly used in retail promotions to communicate savings clearly to shoppers and can be applied at shelf, in ads, or digitally.

How It's Calculated

(Discount amount ÷ Original price) × 100

Example

A laundry detergent priced at $10 is promoted at 25% off, reducing the shelf price to $7.50 during the promotion.
