Cut In

Definition

The process of introducing a new product or SKU into a retailer’s assortment, typically during a category reset or authorization period. A cut in marks the point at which an item becomes eligible for ordering and shelf placement.

How It's Calculated

Example

A frozen entrée brand secures approval to cut in two new flavors during a retailer’s spring category review, replacing slower-moving SKUs in the set.
