Definition

A specific product characteristic or feature used to describe, segment, or evaluate items within a category. Attributes may be physical, functional, or perceptual and are often used in assortment decisions, consumer research, and category analysis.

Example

In category analysis, a cereal brand tracks attributes such as high protein, low sugar, and gluten-free to understand which product features are driving distribution gains and shelf placement.
