Average Items Carried (AIC)

Definition

The average number of items or SKUs from a brand or category that are carried per store across a defined set of retailers or outlets. AIC provides insight into assortment breadth at the store level.

How It's Calculated

Total items carried across all stores ÷ Number of stores

Example

A pasta sauce brand calculates an AIC of 4.2 items per store, indicating that most stores carry four to five SKUs rather than the full brand lineup.
