Definition

An index comparing a category’s performance in a market versus its national average (Category Development Index, CDI)

How It's Calculated

(Category sales per household in market ÷ Category sales per household nationally) × 100

Example

Frozen pizza CDI is 140 in Chicago, meaning it over-indexes by 40% compared to the U.S. average.
