Contribution Margin (CM)

Definition

The amount by which product sales revenue exceeds variable costs, used to measure profitability (Contribution Margin, CM)

How It's Calculated

Sales revenue − Variable costs

Example

If a product sells for $5 and variable costs are $3, the Contribution Margin = $2 per unit.
