Free Fills

Definition

Product provided by a manufacturer to a retailer at no cost, typically to support new item launches, distribution gains, or promotional programs. Free fills are used to incentivize retailers to stock and display products.

How It's Calculated

Units provided × cost or wholesale value (treated as a trade spend expense).

Example

A snack manufacturer offers two free cases of each new flavor to Kroger during a category reset to secure placement on shelf.
