Generic Brand

Definition

A product offering with minimal branding, packaging, and marketing, typically positioned as a low-cost alternative within a category. Generic brands focus on price and basic functionality, often lacking the differentiation of national or private label brands.

How It's Calculated

Example

A grocery retailer offers a generic brand of canned vegetables with simple packaging and lower pricing compared to both national brands and the retailer’s own private label line.
