Percent Category Growth

Definition

The percentage change in total sales or volume for a product category over a defined period, indicating whether the category is growing or declining.

How It's Calculated

(Current period category sales − Prior period category sales) ÷ Prior period category sales × 100

Example

A beverage category grows from $500 million to $550 million in annual sales, resulting in 10% percent category growth.
