Purchase Frequency (PF)

Definition

The average number of times a consumer or household purchases a product, brand, or category within a defined period, indicating how often buyers return to purchase.

How It's Calculated

Total number of purchase occasions ÷ Number of purchasing households

Example

A snack brand is purchased 500,000 times by 100,000 households over a year, resulting in a purchase frequency of 5, meaning each household buys the product five times on average.
