Units per Trip

Definition

The average number of units of a product purchased by a shopper in a single shopping trip, used to understand basket size and purchasing behavior.

How It's Calculated

Units per Trip = Total Units Sold ÷ Total Number of Purchase Trips

Example

A shopper buys 3 units of yogurt during one grocery trip and 2 units on their next trip. Across 100 total trips, the brand sells 250 units, resulting in 2.5 units per trip, indicating relatively strong basket size for the category.
