Unplanned Purchase

Definition

A purchase decision made by a shopper in-store or online that was not intended prior to the shopping trip, often influenced by factors such as product placement, promotions, displays, or impulse appeal.

How It's Calculated

Example

A shopper enters a grocery store intending to buy ingredients for dinner but adds a chocolate bar at checkout after seeing it on display. This additional item is an unplanned purchase driven by impulse and in-store merchandising.
