Vertical Merchandising

Definition

A merchandising technique where products are arranged vertically on shelves, grouping similar items or brands from top to bottom to improve visibility, make it easier for shoppers to find products, and encourage trade-up or cross-purchase.

How It's Calculated

Example

A salad dressing brand organizes its SKUs vertically on the shelf—ranch, Caesar, and vinaigrette stacked top to bottom—making it easier for shoppers to compare options and increasing the likelihood of multiple purchases within the brand.
